The Influencers Trust Label: ensuring quality and reliability of social media networks!

YouthProAktiv, in Consortium with iCmedia and the University of Lisbon, is a proud partner of the international project, the Influencers Trust Label, co-funded by the European Commission. The project aiming at the development of a Trust Label for Influencers to increase citizens’ awareness about what is, and what is not quality and reliable information.

In recent years, the figure of “influencers” has become gradually established, designating those profiles that come from the cultural, sports, artistic, political, or business fields among others, and whose opinions implies influence on the decisions of different social groups, playing an increasingly important role in the shaping of public opinion. In this context, the project has developed a model that can be used by influencers as a tool to guarantee to their followers the reliability of the information content divulgated through their channels.

YPA’s training for youth

Additionally, to ensure successful use of the Trust Label, the project is organizing a series of trainings oriented to increase the level of media literacy through a better understanding of the developed tool, oriented to different targeted groups.

YouthProAktiv is organizing a youth training: “Mobilized for a truthful society of information” that will be held online on the 6th and 7th of April 2021.

This training is designed as an interactive and participatory event with the active involvement of well-known social media influencers and other relevant speakers and policy-makers. The main aims of our training are improving young people’s critical understanding of social media and the danger of disinformation. Participants will learn how to use fact-checking services and report on disinformation.

The aim is to teach youth about the rationale and the use of the Trust Label for Influencers. Participants will explore how this tool can help them in improving their media literacy skills and combatting fake news encountered through social media. They will experience a first-hand opportunity to interact and discuss with influencers about the best ways to combat fake news encounters in social media and practically spread the use and recognition of the Trust Label.

Simultaneously, our partners from iCmedia will hold training for influencers, while the University of Lisbon will introduce the idea to the university professors.

 What next?

YouthProAktiv will take the lead on the official dissemination of the Trust Label for Influencers at the European level. Precisely, on the 8th of June 2021, we are organizing the official presentation of project results and best practices identified to combat fake news in social media channels. The aim is to achieve a better engagement of policy-makers and related stakeholders in the use and promotion of the Trust Label for Influencers for the fight against fake news in social media. Hopefully, new synergies, alliances, and partnerships are going to be encouraged for the development of new projects and strategies that could help increase media literacy skills in European combat against disinformation.
