Erasmus+ KA1 Project in Madrid: Boosting Inclusion and Diversity in My Everyday Life – My Digital Contribution

Erasmus+ KA1 Project in Madrid

From October 6 to 11, Madrid hosted the Erasmus+ KA1 project titled “Boosting Inclusion and Diversity in My Everyday Life – My Digital Contribution.” This initiative gathered young participants from across Europe, creating a space for exploring the intersections of inclusion, diversity, and digital innovation. Through hands-on workshops, cultural activities, and interactive discussions, the project aimed to equip participants with practical skills to address social challenges in their communities.

The week began with a warm welcome at the Safestay Madrid Central Hostel, where participants were introduced to the program’s mission of promoting digital inclusion. The introductory session set the stage for an engaging week by emphasizing empathy, collaboration, and openness as core values for exploring diversity. The first day also highlighted the principles of Erasmus+ and the impact of cross-cultural exchange, underscoring how varied perspectives contribute to richer, more inclusive communities.

A lively series of icebreakers, including “Greetings from Around the World,” helped participants connect with each other while learning about their diverse backgrounds. Workshops and presentations followed, delving into the concepts of inclusion and diversity through exercises like “Confronting Stereotypes” and “Walk in Someone Else’s Shoes.” These activities invited participants to reflect on their own biases and the power of empathy in creating inclusive societies. The day culminated in an intercultural evening and a tour of Madrid, allowing participants to experience the city’s vibrant culture while fostering a sense of unity and understanding.

Throughout the week, discussions focused on the causes of social exclusion and the barriers that many young people face in achieving inclusivity. Workshops addressed unconscious bias and structural challenges, with a group session on Canadian diversity practices offering a global perspective on these issues. Participants also had the opportunity to explore the Prado Museum, deepening their appreciation of cultural diversity through art.

One of the program’s highlights was the development of digital projects aimed at raising awareness about inclusion and diversity. Working in collaborative groups, participants applied the insights they had gained to create digital tools and solutions for social change. This activity demonstrated the potential of digital platforms in promoting inclusivity and encouraged participants to think creatively about how these projects could be adapted to their own communities.

Participants also received training on digital communication tools, focusing specifically on podcast creation. By learning to produce content that addresses diversity and inclusion, participants gained skills to express their ideas and reach a wider audience. An afternoon session provided strategies for engaging youth in digital inclusion initiatives, further equipping participants with practical approaches to drive meaningful change.

The program concluded with a post-evaluation session, where participants reflected on the knowledge and skills they had gained. They were awarded YouthPass certificates, recognizing their commitment to promoting inclusion and diversity. The final goodbyes were filled with gratitude and inspiration, as participants left with new friendships, a deeper understanding of inclusion, and the tools to implement positive change in their daily lives and communities.

This Erasmus+ KA1 project exemplified the transformative potential of digital innovation in fostering inclusivity, leaving participants empowered to make impactful contributions toward diversity in their communities.
